The Church of the Madonna del Sito Alto is one of the most cherished places of worship in Sala Consilina. Little is known about the origins of this church, making it quite complex to reconstruct its history, including identifying the modifications the building has undergone over the centuries.
The church remains a place of great veneration for the Virgin, as evidenced by the three pilgrimages held each year from the Church of San Pietro Apostolo to the Sanctuary. It is also customary, on the Feast of the Assumption, to honor the Madonna with a long vigil after the religious service.
